Enjoy a visit to Madison County, Virginia

Mason feeds the goat

What a beautiful day we’re having in Virginia!  Looking for something fun to do today?  How about a beautiful drive to Madison County, Virginia! Just 25 minutes north of Charlottesville, it makes for a great day or afternoon trip.  I enjoy fly fishing for trout in many of the small streams flowing down the eastern slope of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Lunch at Graves Mountain Lodge gives enough energy for an afternoon hike up Old Rag Mountain.   We always enjoy visiting E.A. Clore Sons, Inc. where you can see solid wood furniture being made by craftsmen and then buy a piece or two to start a family heirloom collection.  Yesterday we took the grandchildren to Yoder’s Country Market.  Make sure you bring plenty of quarters to buy handfuls of feed for the animals and the checkbook so you can stock up on all the great food and items for sale in the store.   We played and fed the goats, turkeys, chickens and Mason found one rabbit (The black and white rabbit was hiding in the turkey pen. When Mason said, “Granddaddy look at the rabbit!”, I thought he was hallucinating.  But sure enough, there was a big black and white rabbit in the middle of a gang of turkeys). When Mason and I look at Virginia Wildlife Magazine, he identifies the animals for me.  Mason really enjoyed seeing the live animals and calling our their names during the visit to Yoder’s. Heck just a walk up and down Main Street visiting the shops or a quick stop into the Pig and Steak for BBQ makes for a great afternoon.  If you like Virginia wine, perhaps a visit to one of Madison County’s wineries would top off your visit.  Whatever you do, get outside and enjoy the beautiful day.  If you have real estate questions or are ready to buy a home, farm or land, let’s talk!
