Looking for a fun unique event on Independence Day? Check out the 2:00 PM ringing of the Virginia replica of the Liberty Bell at the Charlottesville, Virginia Firehouse, 203 Ridge Street, Charlottesville. In another state, check out this link to see if something is being done with your state’s replica of the Liberty Bell.
Charlottesville’s event continues a long tradition of Independence Day bell ringing events sponsored by the Stonewall Jackson Area Council BSA, The Descendents of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence and the Fire Company. Arrive before the 1:45 PM start and bring a lawn chair and some bottled water (it’s going to be warm!). The ceremony should last about 45 minutes including the 2:00 PM bell ringing.
In 1950 the Secretary of the Treasury ordered replica Liberty Bells cast then distributed to the state. To commemorate the 2:00 PM July 4, 1776 ringing of the original Liberty Bell, Congress passed a resolution in 1963 that the replicas should be rung at 2:00 PM on July 4th. I’ve attended the ceremony several times and hope you will join in the ringing this year!
Have a safe and fun filled Independence Day. If you have real estate questions, are ready to buy or sell real estate, or know someone who is, I am here to help, so let’s talk!
