Are you celebrating Memorial Day on Monday, May 30, 2011? With the holiday just around the corner, I got to thinking about The Memorial Day Holiday and why we celebrate the last Monday in May as Memorial Day. There remains some discussion over when Memorial Day was first fist celebrated but the reason for Celebrating Memorial remains clear. Americans celebrate Memorial Day to remember and honor those who have died in service to our nation.
This Memorial Day it’s fine to go swimming at Lake Anna, roast hot dogs and enjoy the day. I would encourage you to take a little time and reflect on those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. If you happened to see active duty or retired military personnel, please thank them for their service.
Fun events abound in Central Viringia for the 2011 Memorial Day weekend like: Michie Tavern’s General Store Sidewalk Sale ; visit a local vineyard like Cooper Vineyards in Louisa County for a wine tasting ; tour James and Dolley Madison’s home Montpelier, Orange County ; or go camping at Lake Anna State Park .
